Franky Mejia Echeverria, 20, of Anaheim, was taken into custody during a traffic stop near Beach Boulevard and Ball Road early Friday morning, March 18, Anaheim police said in a news release. He was the last suspect sought in a Dec. 21 drive-by shooting that killed David Gutierrez Hernandez, 22, also of Anaheim.
Another suspect in the shooting, 21-year-old Damien Ruvalcava of Costa Mesa, was arrested earlier this month. Police described him and Echeverria as gang members.
Gutierrez was not a gang member, police said. He was found wounded near his home on the 2100 block of East Balsam Avenue, and later died at a hospital.
Echeverria and Ruvalcava remained in custody as of Tuesday evening, according to inmate records. They have since been charged by prosecutors with assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at another person from a motor vehicle, vandalism, street terrorism and gang enhancements.
