One California Highway Patrol officer died and another was injured early Wednesday, July 2, after their patrol vehicle crashed into a tree in Culver City.
The crash was reported just after 12:30 a.m. at Bristol Parkway near Green Valley Circle.
Officer Miguel Cano, 34, was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center by Culver City Fire Department paramedics but died.
Dozens of officers gathered at the hospital, with Fox11 reporting that a procession would be held to transport the Cano’s body to the medical examiner’s office.
The second officer sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene, according to Fox11.
The station also reported that the crash occurred while the officers were transporting a suspect, who was also taken to a hospital. That person’s condition was not immediately clear.
The crash occurred just blocks from the CHP’s West Los Angeles office where the suspect was being taken.
