A man died Friday afternoon, April 18, after driving an SUV through a garage and into a backyard swimming pool in Brea, police said.
Around 1 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of South Mulberry Avenue and found the vehicle partially submerged in a pool with a man still in the driver’s seat, according to Brea Police Lt. Phil Rodriguez.
Several officers jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue the man. Firefighters arrived shortly after and were able to pull him from the vehicle.
Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities believe the man drove through the garage and part of the house before ending up in the pool. The residence is believed to be his, though that has not been officially confirmed.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash, including the possibility of a medical emergency.
