While Italy is beautiful, full of culture, art and food, you don’t need to trek to Europe to learn how to incorporate more authentic Italian flavors into your cooking.
Eataly, the large-scale Italian marketplace and food hall that combines retail, dining, and educational spaces to spotlight Italian culinary tradition, is launching a series of cooking classes in La Pizza & La Pasta and Eataly Ristorante in Los Angeles.
From now through June 28, aspiring cooks of all levels can sign up for educational classes on how to recreate the best Roman dishes at home with an immersive communal table experience. Attendees will be able to cook and enjoy their Italian fare by making pasta and pizza from scratch. Each class is $97.92, and some include a special beverage menu that offers Italy’s local wines, beers, and cocktails to sample.
Here are some of the Italian dishes you could learn how to make at La Pizza & La Pasta and Eataly Ristorante. For more information, including pricing, age and dietary restrictions, visit eventbrite.com.
Hands-On Pizza Making
If you’d like to step up your at-home pizza game, this class is for you. A top pizza maker at Eataly Los Angeles will teach you how to prepare and perfect a pizza Napoletana from scratch. In Italy, the pizza is made with a round dough that is baked for only 90 seconds in a hot wood-fired oven until the crust is tall and fluffy with a soft and chewy center. Attendees will learn about the pizza’s history and enjoy a menu featuring an antipasto and wine pairing to go with the hot out-of-the-oven pie.
When: 7 -8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, May 28, June 11 and June 28.
Where: Eataly Los Angeles, 10250 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles.
Hands-On Ravioli Making
In this hands-on class, a Scuola chef will teach you how to prepare ravioli from scratch at La Pizza & La Pasta. You’ll start by rolling the dough and then filling the ravioli with cheese and spinach. Attendees will also learn about Quadrati, a type of ravioli and pasta made from placing a filling between two thin sheets of pasta dough before cutting out each piece into your own shapes. The menu for this class features an antipasto and wine pairing, as well as a chef-prepared Quadrati Ricotta e Spinaci.
When: 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 7 and June 18.
Where: La Pizza & La Pasta, 1801 Avenue of the Stars #1410, Los Angeles.
Hand-On: Fettuccine Alfredo/Burro e Parmigiano
The origin of the fettuccine Alfredo can be traced back to 1908, when Roman chef Alfredo Di Lelio created a special dish for his pregnant wife by adding extra Parmigiano Reggiano DOP and butter to a decadent pasta al doppio burro. This original version does not use cream — only the three simple ingredients of fresh fettuccine, butter and Parmigiano Reggiano DOP. In this class, you’ll make your own pasta from scratch under the direction of a Scuola chef.
When: 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21 and June 4.
Where: La Pizza & La Pasta, 1801 Avenue of the Stars #1410, Los Angeles.
