A 34-acre ranch in Pioneertown, an unincorporated area of San Bernardino County known for “Hoof-N-Foot Only” traffic in downtown Mane Street, recently hit the market for $1.698 million.
This 2,000-square-foot High Desert retreat features three bedrooms and two bathrooms, split between the main house and a guest house. More than a residence, the listing promotes it as an investment opportunity.
Records show a husband and wife bought the property in May 2021 for $1.33 million. They operate it as “a sacred desert retreat space” dubbed Indigotopia, where a five-night stay in May would run $3,697, according Airbnb.
The seller plans to retain six of the total 40 acres that make up the parcel map, which is in the process of being subdivided. The sale includes a 20-acre parcel and two 7-acre parcels.
On the largest of these parcels is the two-bedroom, one-bathroom main house and the guest house.
The main house features an open kitchen with a geometric tiled backsplash, stainless steel appliances and a large butcher block island that flows into the dining room. There, windows frame panoramas of the Pipes Canyon Wilderness area.
A wood-burning fireplace with NuTone blowers in the living room warms the house. Although equipped with solar panels, it draws power from the main electrical grid.
Elsewhere, a glass-enclosed porch functions as a bonus room, suitable for use as home office or homeschool space, the listing suggests.
The property has been updated throughout, including a newly remodeled bathroom with walls of green Italian tiles, a bidet smart toilet, Moroccan shower fittings and hexagon Mexican pavers.
Step outside the main house, and the listing describes “the charm of a rustic cowboy hot tub under the desert sky.” Built from a repurposed galvanized steel livestock trough, the hot tub is wood-fired.
The nearby one-bedroom, one-bathroom guest house features a full kitchen, a soaking tub, a spa and a pool crafted from the salvaged engine casing of a decommissioned jet.
Within the 20-acre parcel is a gated 5-acre area, which includes a detached office with an HVAC system, a two-car garage with storage and two uncovered carports.
Other highlights are a chicken coop with hens, a garden room that doubles as extra storage, a new horse corral and barn, a custom playhouse and a bike track.
Shane Markland and Deborah Reid of Compass share the listing.
The property is a 10-minute drive to downtown shops, art galleries and restaurants.
Pioneertown is the Old West-themed town established as a film location in 1946. A 125-mile drive from downtown Los Angeles, its early investors included Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Bud Abbott and The Sons of The Pioneers whose catchy tune “Out in Pioneertown” helped promote the new town.
