Newport Beach Police officers rescued an individual from the ocean waters after their SUV was found partially submerged in the surf early Saturday morning at Corona del Mar Main Beach, authorities said.
At around 5:30 a.m., NBPD arrived at the scene and successfully rescued the individual from the water despite challenging conditions caused by waves rolling the vehicle in the surf, the Newport Beach Fire Department said on social media.
NBFD personnel provided medical care and scene support. Public Works personnel removed the SUV from the water before it was later towed away.
“The teamwork and determination of all responders were critical in overcoming the hazards posed by the early morning surf,” the NBFD said on Facebook.
NBPD officials could not immediately be reached for comment. The cause of the vehicle ending up in the surf was under investigation by NBPD.
