A 32-year-old man died after falling off a ladder at Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant outside South Coast Plaza on Saturday morning, Nov. 16, authorities and a restaurant spokesperson said.
Shortly before 8 a.m., Costa Mesa police and fire and rescue personnel were dispatched to the 3300 block of Bristol Street for a report of a man with severe head trauma, according to a fire department news release. The man, a restaurant employee, had fallen off the roof while climbing down a ladder, said Fire & Rescue spokesperson Chris Coates. The victim was declared dead at the scene.
Maggiano’s area director, Karna Patel, confirmed the restaurant was the site of the accident.
The victim was not publicly identified.
The restaurant was closed on Saturday morning. It was not clear when it would reopen.
