Fountain Valley has announced new co-coaches for its girls basketball team after the resignation of Marianne Karp.
Former Orange County standout players Camryn Hamaguchi and Izzy Om take the helm of the Sunset Conference program.
Hamaguchi played at Kennedy and Chapman while Om starred at Fairmont Prep and played at Albany.
Hamaguchi and Om also both coach with Ironmen Basketball, a club team and training program.
Karp guided Fountain Valley, her alma mater, to a pair of league titles and four playoff appearances in seven seasons.
“I wanted to help rebuild (the program),” said Karp, a teacher at the school. “I met my goal. Taught these kids that a positive culture matters and they must maintain it.”
“(It’s) hard leaving this group of girls because they are wonderful but it’s the right time,” the coach added.
Karp, a former NCAA Division I women’s official, led Fountain Valley to the CIF-SS Division 3AA playoffs this past season. The Barons (16-13) lost in the first round to eventual semifinalist Cantwell Sacred Heart 50-46.
The Barons finished third in the four-team Surf League.
In a testament to Fountain Valley’s improvement under Karp, the team competed in the Surf League the past four seasons.
