The community is invited to La Palma Park on May 2 through May 5 for Fiesta United’s Anaheim Cinco De Mayo Fiesta.

There will be rides, games, food, music and more family fun for four days.

Yoga and picnic at the Packing District

The Packing District will be hosting Sun, Salutations & Sounds from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m, starting with outdoor yoga on the grassy green at Farmers Park. Kumi Yogini will lead the yoga and there will be frequency healing from DJ Crisanto and a sound bath from Kasie Swisher. The community picnic ends the event.

All about the kids

There will be a special celebration for Children’s Day, April 30, at Downtown Anaheim Community Center.

Have lots of fun celebrating the children of Anaheim from 5 to 7 p.m.; entry is free and there is no registration required. The Downtown Anaheim Community Center is at 250 E. Center Street.  FREE entry and no registration is required.

Resident features Anaheim in photos

Colony resident Kevin Nelson learned “street style” photography in Los Angeles – stuck in traffic, taking photos. Now he bringing his style to Anaheim in a book entitled “Anonymous Volume One” featuring portraits, architecture in the Colony neighborhood and more. He is involved in Anaheim with community projects such as the Anaheim Fall Festival.

There will be a launch party from 3 to 5 p.m. on April 28 at Windsor Brown’s, 211 W. Center Street Promenade.  Books and prints will be available and there will be the opportunity to win framed photo. For more information, find Kevin on Instagram at Kevin_Nelson_photo.

Check out gems and minerals

The Searcher Gem and Mineral Society has its 62nd annual show planned for April 27 and 28.

The show featuring all kinds of gems, minerals and jewelry will be held at the Anaheim Brookhurst Community Center.

There are many activities and lots of fun and learning planned. Organizers said there will be door prizes, gemstones, minerals, silent auctions, exhibits, panning for gold and more.

Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 27 and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 28. Visit searchersrocks.org for more information

Big community plans in May

Two big fun festivals are scheduled for the month of May.

St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church is presenting its annual Greek Festival and the Children’s Festival marks 32 years.

St. John church is at 405 Dale St., and festival hours are 3 to 10 p.m. May 17, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on May 18 and noon to 9 p.m. on May 19. For more information, visit stjohnanaheim.org.

On May 18, the city of Anaheim and the Muzeo are presenting the Anaheim Children’s Festival at Pearson Park.  Booths are still available. There will be art booths offering free activities and all-day entertainment on  stage.  For more information, visit anaheim.net.

Golf tourney to benefit St. Catherine’s

St. Catherine’s Academy is hosting its 33rd annual Golf Invitational on May 6.

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Mother Pia Boys’ Scholarship, which provides scholarships for boys to attend the academy.

Friendly Hills Country Club is the location of the tournament.  Sponsorships are available too.  For more information and to join the tournament call 714- 772-1363 ext. 156.

Thrift shop opening

There is a new thrift store in town, “a store with a purpose” opened by the ministries of the Anaheim Zion Lutheran Church and Schools.

The Zion Thrift Store is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays at 1425 E. Lincoln Ave.  It’s having a grand opening from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on May 4 with Anaheim and church leaders, a blessing of the story and fun activities.

Proceeds from the thrift shop will support the church and its schools, and the donation of goods to local homeless and animal ministries.
