A week full of challenges for the University boys tennis team begins Wednesday with a CIF Southern Section showdown.
The Trojans, ranked No. 2 in the section, play host to No. 1 Corona del Mar in a nonleague match at 3 p.m.
Last month, Corona del Mar edged University 89-79 on games after the teams tied sets 9-9.
It was the Sea Kings’ first victory in a dual match against the Trojans since 2006.
Last season, University beat Corona del Mar four times, including in the finals of the CIF-SS Open Division and SoCal regional playoffs.
The challenges for the Trojans don’t stop after Wednesday. They play league foe Northwood, ranked ninth in the section, on Thursday before entering the All-American team tournament as the No. 1 seed on Friday and Saturday in the South Bay.
Menlo, Torrey Pines and Palos Verdes round out the top-four seeds.
“We’re the top seed so the pressure is on our young team,” said University coach John Kessler, who started three freshmen against Corona del Mar last month.
