A proposed $1.9 billion theme park expansion plan would allow Disneyland to build as many as four thematic icons towering 300 feet in the air — nearly four times the height of Sleeping Beauty Castle and more than 100 feet taller than anything else at the Anaheim theme park.
The March 2024 City of Anaheim Planning Commission Public Review Draft approved this week updates the Disneyland Resort Specific Plan and establishes maximum height limits for the proposed DisneylandForward project.

“The general intent is to establish a building height hierarchy in which most theme park elements will range from 40 to 250 feet high, with up to four structural thematic elements/icons that may be up to 300 feet in height to establish visual interest and orientation within the theme park,” according to the draft document.
The DisneylandForward proposal seeks to update a 1990s Anaheim city plan to allow for a mix of theme park, hotel, retail, dining and entertainment on the eastern and western edges of the Disneyland resort. The Anaheim City Council is set to vote on the DisneylandForward proposal on April 16.

Under current city guidelines, Disney can build one thematic element at Disneyland or Disney California Adventure that surpasses the existing 250-foot-tall height ceiling with a maximum height of 300 feet.
Under the DisneylandForward proposal, Disney could build two thematic elements at the existing theme parks with a maximum height of 300 feet.
Thematic icons have been part of the existing approvals for decades and the Disneyland resort has no immediate plans to construct new thematic icons, according to Disneyland officials.
The DisneylandForward proposal would allow for two additional thematic elements up to 300 feet tall between Disneyland Drive and Walnut Street inside a proposed theme park expansion district. The graduated height limits would be lowest near the Walnut Street residential neighborhoods and tallest near Disneyland Drive.

Currently, the proposed theme park district north and south of the 12-story Disneyland Hotel and 15-story Pixar Place Hotel is not zoned for thematic elements.
Under the DisneylandForward plan, Disney would be permitted to build a single 200-foot-tall thematic element at the proposed Southeast Entertainment District on the current Toy Story parking lot. Height limits would be lower near homes to the south and east of the property.
The Disneyland resort must adhere to Federal Aviation Administration height requirements for structures above 200 feet tall and setback requirements for DisneylandForward expansion areas, according to Disneyland officials.

The proposed 300-foot-tall maximum height for the proposed Disneyland thematic icons would be significantly taller than the Incredicoaster (120 feet), Pixar Pal-A-Round (150 feet) and Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: Breakout (187 feet) attractions.
The 30-story max height would dwarf the famed Disneyland resort mountain range that includes the Matterhorn Bobsleds (147 feet), Cars Land Cadillac Range (125 feet), Space Mountain (118 feet), Grizzly River Run (110 feet), Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (104 feet) and Splash Mountain (87 feet).
