JSerra boys basketball coach Keith Wilkinson has been suspended for six games for disputing an officiating decision during a game by throwing one of his shoes toward an official and slamming his other shoe onto the court.
According to the CIF Southern Section release Friday about the suspension, “The JSerra administration and head coach have accepted a six (6) game suspension without the possibility of appeal.”
Wilkinson’s actions happened during the Lions’ 78-67 loss to Mater Dei on Jan. 5 in a Trinity League game at Mater Dei High. He was protesting the lack of a foul call on a play on which JSerra’s Sebastian Rancik missed a shot; Wilkinson felt a foul had been committed on the play.

JSerra assistant coach CJ Cooper assumes head coaching duties during Wilkinson’s suspension.
Wilkinson is in his sixth season as JSerra’s coach. He played high school basketball at Capistrano Valley and college basketball at USC.
The CIF Southern Section noted rule 503 M. (9) from its Constitution and By-Laws in its announcement of the decision. The rule states: “Ejection for (Fighting/Assaultive Behavior/Gross Unsportsmanlike Conduct): Coach is disqualified from participating for the remainder of that season. Coach must immediately vacate the playing area and the vicinity in and around the contest and refrain from having any communication with the team or other coaches for the remainder of that contest and for all of the team’s remaining contests that season.”
JSerra, 16-3 overall and 1-2 in the Trinity League, plays at home against Santa Margarita in a league game Friday at JSerra High. The Lions play at home against Mater Dei on Jan. 24.
JSerra is ranked No. 2 in the Orange County rankings that have Mater Dei at No. 1.
