THOUSAND OAKS — Two days after cornerback Derion Kendrick was arrested on a felony weapon charge, Rams head coach Sean McVay said the team is still waiting for clarity on the situation.
McVay said the situation remains day-to-day with Kendrick, and made no determination as to whether Kendrick would play for the Rams against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
“I’m hoping that I’ll have further clarity and information, because just as you guys are wondering exactly about everything, we’re doing exactly the same thing,” McVay said. “But because of the legal situation, I wouldn’t feel comfortable commenting when I don’t have that appropriate information.”
Kendrick was stopped for a traffic violation early Monday morning in Hollywood and law enforcement officers found a gun and marijuana in the car. He was charged with a felony count of carrying a concealed weapon.
McVay said he has not spoken with Kendrick since his arrest, but has spoken with the second-year cornerback’s attorney as well as his mother.
“She’s done an awesome job of being able to help him navigate through this,” McVay said. “Hopefully we’ll have a little bit more clarity, hopefully any minute and really in the next couple hours.”
