Taking a look at the highs and lows for Orange County’s teams and players in Week 4 of the football season.

THE HIGHS

Tommy Acosta, Capistrano Valley: Acosta ran for 181 with four touchdowns in Capo Valley’s 35-18 win over El Toro. The senior quarterback threw for 103 yards with a touchdown pass.

Mackenzie Alleyne, Tustin: The senior had 142 yards receiving with three touchdowns in a 40-19 win over Trabuco Hills. Alleyne also ran for 102 yards on five carries with a touchdown.

Ryan Carrasco, Estancia: Carrasco had 11 tackles, three for a loss and two forced fumbles for Estancia in a 14-3 win over La Quinta.

Riley Kelley, San Clemente: The junior defensive back had two interceptions for San Clemente in its 31-7 win against Edison.

Noah Kucera, Dana Hills: Kucera set a school-record for receiving yards in a single game with 254 in a 32-21 win against Woodbridge. The senior had two receiving touchdowns on 12 catches and recovered a fumble on defense.

THE LOWS

Orange Lutheran: The Lancers were missing starting quarterback TJ Lateef in their 40-6 loss to Sierra Canyon. Sierra Canyon is a very good team and losing to the Trailblazers is not a low, but losing by 34 points to anybody is a bad look for a team that will compete for a third-place spot in the Trinity League.

Katella: Katella is 1-4 this season and has scored only six points total in its four losses. The Knights’ next three opponents have winning records, so it may be an uphill climb for Katella this season.

HUNTLEY’S FINAL WORD ON WEEK 4

Some teams are already halfway through the season and after this week nearly every team will have at least played five games. This is the last week of nonleague games before six-team leagues begin league play.

It’s fun to anoint some teams and to write some teams off midway through the season, but it’s important to remember that things can change very quickly in high school football.

Last season, La Habra was 1-4 in nonleague play before winning the Freeway League. San Juan Hills went 0-7 before winning the Sea View League and winning a playoff game.

I have a feeling we will feel differently about a handful of teams in a month than we feel about them now.
