Irvine’s electric-vehicle maker Rivian is opening a retail and experience center later this year at the former South Coast Cinemas on PCH in Laguna Beach.
Dubbed “Spaces,” the center will provide customers a chance to touch, see and drive Rivian’s two all-electric vehicles, the R1T pickup truck and R1S sport-utility vehicle.

Rivian opened its first retail center in Venice Beach in late 2021. This week it also opened a Spaces in New York’s Meatpacking District. The company is also developing a charging outpost in Groveland near Yosemite National Park.
“By planting roots in key areas across North America, we are building out our brick-and-mortar footprint to support current, future and prospective customers, meeting them where they are and showing up in a way that is authentic to Rivian,” Tony Caravano, senior director of Customer Engagement at Rivian, said in a statement.
Rivian said it expects to build 50,000 vehicles this year, double its production volume in 2022, according to Bloomberg. The company also makes the battery-powered electric van for Amazon.com, one of its largest shareholders.
CFO Claire McDonough said the R1S SUV accounts for about 70% of Rivian’s pre-orders.
Rivian operates service centers for its vehicles in Costa Mesa and El Segundo.
The company next week might get pushed out of the Nasdaq 100 Index after its shares plunged more than 90% from a record high, according to JP Morgan Securities.

The swimwear and beach line was founded by Lisa Maree in 2009, and is sold in fashion boutiques and online at lisamaree.co.
The line includes crochet cover-ups and knitted bikinis.
“I live in Laguna Beach and felt that there was a gap in the offering that Laguna provides for a higher-end luxe boutique,” said Maree. “We want to provide customers with a luxurious and personal experience.”
