Angels place Anthony Rendon on injured list

The Angels placed third baseman Anthony Rendon on the 10-day injured list on Monday because of a bruised left wrist.

A corresponding move will be made before the Angels return to action on Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Rendon was hit by a pitch on Thursday. He was listed as day to day over the weekend, but Manager Phil Nevin said if Rendon was unable to play by Tuesday, the Angels would need to consider putting him on the injured list.

An injured list placement can only be retroactive three days, so if the Angels would have waited until Tuesday, they would have lost a day. The move is now retroactive to Friday, so Rendon would be eligible to return next Monday, the start of a home series against the Chicago White Sox.

He will miss at least the next two games against the Dodgers and three this weekend in Colorado.

The Angels have a few choices for the corresponding move. The infielders they could recall include David Fletcher, Livan Soto, Trey Cabbage and Jake Lamb. A 40-man roster move would be required to add Fletcher or Cabbage.
