An off-duty Orange County sheriff’s deputy was killed in a solo vehicle crash in Lake Elsinore on Thursday morning, Feb. 9, authorities said.
Cal Fire firefighters responded to the crash about 5:15 a.m. in the 25000 block of Railroad Canyon Road and found a vehicle had hit a tree, spokeswoman Maggie De La Rosa said.

Orange County sheriff’s officials confirmed the driver was a “member of our department” and that the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department had notified them of the deputy’s death.
Law enforcement officials late Thursday morning lined up in a procession to take the fallen deputy’s body to the coroner’s office.
“Our greatest sorrow and condolences are for the member’s family and closest friends,” Orange County sheriff’s officials said in a tweeted statement. “During this time, we are collaborating with the Riverside Sheriff’s Department as we prepare to honor our fallen member.”
