Disneyland has pushed back the grand reopening of Mickey’s Toontown by more than a week after a series of heavy winter storms that swept through Southern California slowed construction progress on the reimagined themed land.

Mickey’s Toontown will now debut on March 19 at the Anaheim theme park instead of the previously announced March 8 opening date.

“Due to heavy winter storms that impacted our construction momentum we are adjusting the reopening date of Mickey’s Toontown to March 19,” according to Disneyland officials. “We can’t wait for our guests to visit and experience the reimagined land.”

The new Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway dark ride has already opened in the land and won’t be affected by the construction delay of Toontown — which closed in March 2022 for the yearlong project. A major portion of Toontown remains behind construction walls with Runaway Railway limited to riders with virtual queue or Lightning Lane access.

The makeover of the cartoon-styled land will add new interactive play areas for young children and refresh existing attractions.

The recently renovated Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin will return with the grand reopening of Toontown with Jessica Rabbit in the lead role as a private eye.

The former Gadget’s Go Coaster will be rethemed as Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Gadget Coaster based on characters from 2022 “Chip ‘n’ Dale Rescue Rangers” live action/animated film.

Goofy’s House will be reimagined as a candy-making shop with a chaotic Rube Goldberg-like contraption inside that fuels the confection operation.

Outside, an elevated clubhouse will feature a rope climbing cargo net, hillside slides and a sound garden with quirky noise makers. Small play areas with balance beams, rocking horses and hopscotch squares will fill Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard.

Nearby, Donald’s Boat has crashed into a duck pond next to Goofy’s House. The boat is now filled with water and leaking from the inside. The resulting water play area will feature spinning water lilies and dancing fountains. Visitors will no longer be able to go inside the boat or up on the deck.

Other Toontown additions include a water play area and fountain at the center of the reimagined land dubbed Centoonial Park and a Dreaming Tree with a grassy play area.

The fountain featuring a statue of Mickey holding Minnie aloft like a ballerina will be brought to life at night in a “unique spectacle.”

The Dreaming Tree will be inspired by the tree a young Walt Disney would daydream under in his hometown of Marceline, Missouri. Children will be able to climb and play on the sculpted tree roots popping out of an undulating topography.

Cafe Daisy will take over space once dedicated to the land’s quick service food stands — Pluto’s Dog House, Daisy’s Diner and Clarabelle’s ice cream. The Daisy Duck-themed sidewalk eatery will serve “dinner classics.” Shade trees and umbrellas will dot the City Hall courtyard filled with outdoor dining tables.

Next door, the Good Boy Grocers Market themed to Mickey’s dog Pluto will sell grab-and-go drinks and snacks.

The cartoon land based on the 1988 “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” live action/animated movie will continue to be home to Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and other Disney characters.

Mickey and Minnie’s houses — where visitors can pose for meet-and-greet photos with the characters — will remain as part of the Toontown renovation.
