All of the southbound lanes on the 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa had reopened by about 2:20 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Jan. 26, after they were all closed because someone jumped from an overpass into traffic, authorities said.
Around noon, the person jumped from the Victoria Street overpass into oncoming traffic and was struck by at least one vehicle, said Sheilah Fortenberry, a Caltrans spokeswoman.
Information on the victim was not immediately available.
Authorities shut down all of the southbound lanes but around 2 p.m. reopened two lanes, Fortenberry said. Shortly thereafter, the other two reopened.
