Santa Anita, horse racing have ‘evolved’ when it comes to rain

• Kazushi Kimura, who moved his tack to Santa Anita this winter, has been on a roll lately after a slow start. The 23-year-old native of Japan, who campaigned last winter at Turfway Park, won his first race at Santa Anita and first U.S. graded stakes Jan. 15, guiding Kristenbosch to a nose victory in the Grade III La Cañada Stakes. He came back to win two more races last Saturday. “He’s definitely gaining some momentum,” Kimura’s agent, Brandon O’Bryan, told Santa Anita’s Victor Ryan. “It may have been a touch slow earlier in the meet, but he’s got the ball rolling now.”
