Disneyland limits Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway to virtual queue and pay-to-play access

You’ll have to win the virtual queue lottery or pay extra for Lightning Lane access to ride Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway because Disneyland won’t offer a standby line when the new trackless dark ride opens next week at the Anaheim theme park.

Disneyland visitors will be required to join a virtual queue or pay an Individual Lightning Lane line-cutting upcharge fee via the Disneyland app to ride Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway beginning on Jan. 27 when the new attraction debuts. No standby line or general Genie+ access will be available for the attraction.

Runaway Railway will be the centerpiece of the reimagined Mickey’s Toontown — which will return a few weeks later on March 8. The new Disneyland attraction will be a near-clone of the first Mickey Mouse ride-through attraction that opened in 2020 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.

Virtual queue enrollments for Runaway Railway will open at 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily with spots expected to be snapped up fast — typically in minutes and often within seconds.

The 7 a.m. virtual queue opens an hour before Disneyland and 30 minutes before Disney hotel guests get early access to the park. The 1 p.m. virtual queue opens at parkhopping time — which is set to change to 11 a.m. beginning on Feb. 4.

Disneyland has not announced the price for the front-of-the-line Runaway Railway Lightning Lane — but pay-to-play access for other popular rides typically cost between $12 and $25 per person per ride. Individual Lightning Lane availability is limited and prices vary by date.

The new “World of Color – One” water show debuting Jan. 27 at Disney California Adventure will also offer a virtual queue for the nighttime spectacular.
