Disneyland has fewer low-priced days so far this year — but that’s about to change

Disneyland has some catching up to do if it hopes to make good on a promise to cut ticket prices in 2023 after offering fewer low-priced days during the first half of this year.

Disneyland officials announced last week that the Anaheim theme park will offer nearly two months of dates in 2023 with daily tickets at $104 — the lowest price for a one-day, one-park admission.

Disneyland introduced tiered pricing in 2016 with lower prices during slower periods of the year and higher prices during the busiest seasons. Since then, the park has expanded the number of ticket tiers and raised prices on the top end while holding the lowest price steady at the $104 level.

So far this year, Disneyland has offered 12% fewer $104 days than last year. The Mouse House can’t stay at that pace if it hopes to increase the number of low-priced days by approximately 50% in 2023.

Disneyland only releases pricing calendars for about four months out — which currently extends through May for 2023. The park offered $104 tickets on 21 days from January to May of this year compared to 24 days during the same period last year.

That means Disneyland will have to sprinkle 35 to 40 more $104 days into the last seven months of 2023 — just as the calendar tips into the busy summer months followed by the even busier Halloween and Christmas seasons.

So where will those low-priced days land? Disneyland hasn’t said yet, but based on the 2022 pricing calendar it’s possible to make some educated estimations. The most likely spots to drop more $104 days would be just before summer vacation from late May to early June and after summer break in late August and early September.

Simply replicating the 38 lowest-priced days from 2022 won’t be enough to get to the “nearly two months” promised by Disneyland.

Disneyland will likely need to convert the second lowest priced days from May to December to the lowest $104 price. It turns out there were 18 days during that same period in 2022 when tickets were at their second lowest price — which currently stands at $114 for a daily single park ticket.

Combining the lowest two pricing tiers from 2022 would get Disneyland in the ballpark of “nearly two months.” Tossing the $114 days into the mix would likely mean more $104 days in October and early November.

The dates for two lowest priced ticket tiers typically fall on Mondays through Thursdays — with most on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
