A blufftop home on a large lot more than twice the width of most properties on this front-row, oceanview street in Corona del Mar’s Irvine Terrace has come up for sale.

The asking price is $18.695 million.

“The most recent comp, which sold for almost $20 million just a few doors down the street earlier this year, was on a 60-foot-wide lot,” Rob Smith of Compass, the listing agent, said. “So, for us to have more than double that lot in width is just spectacular. It’s truly the jewel of the street in that respect.”

Designed in a soft contemporary style with floor-to-ceiling windows, the two-story house completed in 1995 sits on a nearly half-acre lot 126 feet wide. Unobstructed ocean and coastal views take centerstage from almost everywhere in the four-bedroom, 6,100-square-foot home with five bathrooms.

One of the few exceptions is a combined office and library, with its built-in wall of bookcases, a desk and glass walls. It overlooks the entry courtyard, which shelters a 50-foot lap pool from the wind that whips up the bluff, allowing for year-round use.

Property records show the house sold last in April 2004 for $6.25 million. The seller is the family of the third owner.

“I held an open house, and the woman who originally built the house to live in came through,” Smith said. “It was really special to get to meet her and hear about the house back from the beginning.”

As it turns out, little changed except for the paint colors and some light fixtures.

“It was a very, very well-built home,” Smith said of the 27-year-old home. “They spent a lot of money putting this house together, and it’s held up.”

The front door opens from the street level and leads to an expansive formal living and dining space, separated by a see-through fireplace.

A fireplace also warms the great room off the kitchen and opens to one of the property’s three view decks. It features a barbecue island and seating.
