In some ways, the Woodbridge Classic is an educational cross country meet.
Two weeks into the season, it helps provide valuable information about the best runners and teams in Southern California.
This year the Woodbridge Classic will be held at Great Park in Irvine on Thursday and Friday. The plan is for Great Park to be the permanent home for the Woodbridge Classic, according to meet director George Varvas.
The meet had been at SilverLakes Sports Park in Norco in recent years.
The list of Orange County teams competing in the meet includes the JSerra girls, who were CIF State Division IV champions last year. The Lions are tied with Oaks Christian for No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division 4 rankings.
Oaks Christian and defending CIF State Division I girls champion Buchanan are also entered in the Woodbridge Classic.
Huntington Beach junior Makenzie McRae will try to make it two winning weekends in a row. She posted the fastest time for girls at last week’s Laguna Hills Invitational.
Agoura and Santa Margarita, tied for the No. 1 ranking in CIF-SS boys Division 3, are in the meet.
Great Oak has the top-ranked boys and girls teams in Division 1, and both are entered in the Woodbridge Classic.
