SANTA ANA — A 25-year-old man pleaded guilty and was immediately sentenced to seven years and four months in prison for a crash that killed a Buena Park attorney and critically injured his wife while out on a date night, according to court records obtained Tuesday.
Nathaniel Machado of Anaheim was driving west on Auto Center Drive through Western Avenue on a red light on Aug. 14, 2021, before slamming into Keith Alan’s southbound car slightly before 6:40 p.m., Buena Park Police Department Sgt. Chad Weaver said.
Machado and his passengers got out of the car and ran away, Weaver said.
Alan, 58, was killed in the crash and his wife, Tami, was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, Weaver said.
Machado pleaded guilty Monday to gross vehicular manslaughter, hit and run with permanent and serious injury and reckless driving causing injury to a person other than the driver, all felonies.
Machado also admitted sentencing enhancements for fleeing the scene of a vehicular manslaughter and inflicting great bodily injury on the victim.
