First Lady Jill Biden is making a whirlwind visit to Los Angeles over two days, arriving at Hollywood Burbank Airport on Thursday, Sept. 15 for a brief appearance with the press before heading to unannounced private activities, followed Friday by a major invitation-only Democratic National Committee event where she will speak.

Her last public speech in Los Angeles was on May 31, when she traveled with President Joe Biden to Los Angeles to speak from her  heart at the graduation ceremonies of Los Angeles Community College held at the Greek Theatre.

Dr. Biden got three standing ovations from nearly 1,000 students and faculty in response to a heart-to-heart speech in which she asked the LACC graduates, “So, where are you from?” When a student in the theater called out a hometown, she laughed and responded that she’d really meant to ask, “What was your journey?”

Dr. Biden, who is an English professor at Northern Virginia Community college, cited one graduate at LACC who was 46 and lost her job during the pandemic. “So she enrolled at LACC to become a teacher” — to loud loud applause. “We need good teachers!” the first lady called out to the packed audience.

In this week’s visit, her team invited the Daily News to send a pool reporter to cover her lunchtime remarks at the Democratic National Committee event.

According to Yahoo and other media, the reception will be hosted by writer-producer and Friends co-creator Martha Kauffman. The Hancock Park lunch reception is being held for the Democratic Grassroots Victory Fund, which is raising money for the Democratic National Committee and state parties.

She will visit Homeboy Industries and Homegirl Cafe in Chinatown, where former incarcerated people learn skills to help them succeed in life. During the pandemic, Homegirl Cafe ran a major emergency meal production that produced and delivered more than 350,000 nutritious, fresh meals to communities in need.
