We asked our photographers to pick their favorite photos from July 2022, and here are some of the moments they selected.

Even though summer isn’t over, for most of OC, August meant the end of summer camps and students heading back to school. In Huntington Beach, Camp Silver Gan Israel, a Jewish day camp, wrapped up its 50th year serving 250 kids a week in a place Rabbi Sender Engel, calls, “a place where happy kids are Jewisher and Jewish kids are happier”

Above Orange County, chefs, secret agents and trapeze artists met in the San Bernardino mountains at Pali Adventures.Kids get to choose from among 60 afternoon electives during the weeklong summer camp. After entering the summer camp’s compound the 250-acre forest becomes your battleground. You will drive an all-terrain vehicle. You will climb four stories up a pine tree and jump. You will learn martial arts and self-defense. You may even go on an overnight mission. But you won’t be able to call mom and dad. Sorry, Pali rules.

In Irvine, the area’s newest attraction started a junior lifeguard program giving inland Orange County kids a unique place to learn water safety. Camp Wild Rivers Junior Lifeguards is a one-week program for kids 6 to 13 years old at Wild Rivers Water Park in Irvine.

At the beach, thousands gathered to watch the year’s biggest surfing competition – the Vans US Open of Surfing where competitors not only ride the waves but hang out with fans along the shore. Along with the new inductees to the Surfing Walk of Fame on Main Street in Huntington Beach.

Over in Garden Grove, Workers with HSG, a window cleaning and servicing company, got busy on some of the 10,000 window panes at Christ Cathedral. The job takes several weeks to finish. The windows were last cleaned before the cathedrals opened in 2019.

Down in San Clemente, there was a range of emotions as kids returned to Vista Del Mar K-8 school. On one side of campus, middle school students on the school’s leadership team were all smiles as they welcomed their classmates back to school. While in another classroom Jamie Tilbury’s 4-year-old son, Parker, took shelter as he held on to her legs before starting pre-k.

The month ended with sweltering heat in San Juan Capistrano as goats and horses took center stage in the city. While baby goats joined adult humans during Yin Yoga class at Goods and Goats cowboys were also competing at the 20th anniversary Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo.
