The Chargers on Tuesday placed wide receiver Jaylen Guyton on injured reserve because of a torn ACL sustained Sunday in their 38-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. They also claimed outside linebacker Derrek Tuszka off waivers in the wake of the groin injury that edge rusher Joey Bosa suffered on Sunday.
Guyton is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Typical recovery from a torn ACL ranges from six to nine months. Bosa’s status was “week-to-week,” according to Chargers coach Brandon Staley. Bosa’s injury was described as “significant,” by Staley during Monday’s Zoom call.
Staley said he was unsure whether Bosa would be placed on injured reserve.
“With J.G., that was just an unfortunate deal,” Staley said, referring to Guyton, who was injured with less than two minutes to play while running a pattern along the left sideline near the Jaguars’ end zone. “It’s part of the game, unfortunately. We hate it, but it’s part of the game.”
Tuszka, a seventh-round draft pick of the Denver Broncos in 2020, has played in 25 games in his NFL career with the Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and, most recently, the Tennessee Titans. He made his first NFL start on Sunday with the Titans, recording two tackles.
