Newport Beach police on Monday identified a driver arrested in a hit-and-run crash Sunday that killed a bicyclist.
Newport Beach officers located a man on Jamboree Road, south of University Drive just before 8:30 a.m. where multiple people were attempting to help the bicyclist. Life-saving measures were attempted by paramedics, but ultimately the victim died on scene, a news release from the department said.
The victim’s identification was not immediately released, pending next of kin notification.
Shortly after, officers located the suspect vehicle and driver in the nearby Eastbluff neighborhood. Adriana Bernal, 36, of Anaheim, was arrested on suspicion of murder and hit-and-run collision.
Investigators believe Bernal was under the influence of a drug at the time of the collision and has a prior DUI arrest, police said. She was being held on a $1 million bail.
Any witnesses or anyone with information about the collision can call Investigator M. Keyworth at 949-644-3746.
