A 63-year-old man died and a woman was hospitalized following a single-vehicle rollover crash near a shopping center in San Clemente Saturday morning, Aug. 20, authorities said.
The vehicle was traveling along Camino De Los Mares just north of the 5 Freeway near the Ocean View Plaza shopping center when the crash occurred just after 9:40 a.m., Orange County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Renee De La Rosa said.
The vehicle also hit a tree before coming to rest, Sheriff’s Sgt. Todd Hylton said.
The man was driving, De La Rosa said. The 22-year-old woman, a passenger, was taken to Mission Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
What direction they were going and what caused the crash was not yet available. Officials shut down Camino De Los Mares between Camino El Molino and Calle Agua while investigators worked the scene.
