Del Taco is launching a line of sandwiches it calls Epic Tortas on Thursday, Sept. 1.

The sandwiches will be made on toasted 7-inch rolls with spicy fillings that include crispy chicken and guacamole; a chicken BLT; and carne asada with queso blanco.

Prices will be $6.59-$7.59 for the tortas and $10.59-$11.59 for meals, according to a news release from the Lake Forest-based chain.

Tortas are a first for the brand, if not major fast food chains. Over the years, Taco Bell has had items called Tortadas, most recently a Crispy Chicken Tortada tested earlier this year. But they are made on a flour tortillas instead of rolls and resemble a wrap.

Del Yeah! Rewards members can order Del Taco’s Epic Tortas on Wednesday, Aug. 31, through its app or online.

Del Taco is also offering rewards members free delivery on orders placed in the app on weekends in Septembers and two tortas for $10 Sept. 9-Oct. 2.

Epic Tortas are part of a larger initiative called Del Taco Better Mex intended to elevate the brand experience internally and externally, the news release said.

To promote Epic Tortas, Del Taco will be making over its Lakewood restaurant at 11723 Del Amo Blvd. into “Del Torta.” It is one of the chain’s first “fresh flex” locations, remodeled to speed up mobile app and third-party delivery pickups.
