Brice Sensabaugh, this year’s Orlando Sentinel (and state) Lake Highland Prep senior top boys basketball All-Area star, made his senior-season 25.1 points per game average pale in comparison to the scoring show he put on against high-level competition on Sunday.
Sensabaugh, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound bulldozer of a guard, has Ohio State fans giddy after pouring in 51 points in a run-and-gun Kingdom League pro-am summer game in Columbus. As he did in high school, Sensabaugh scored in a smorgasbord of ways — including deep 3-pointers, dribble drives and dunks in a three-point loss to a team that included veteran NBA guard Trey Burke.
Some outlets credited Sensabaugh with 50 points, not 51. According to a report by The Columbus Dispatch, Sensabaugh made 18-of-27 shot attempts and was 9-of-17 on 3-point tries in a game played at Ohio Dominican University — a private school located about five miles from the Ohio State campus.
Sensabaugh, who enrolled at Ohio State in June, was among a number of current, former and future Buckeyes participating in the Kingdom League, a Sunday summer series listed as NCAA-certified and NBA-sanctioned.
“Ohio State’s my dream school. It was nothing short of what I expected,” he told reporters who were on hand for his scoring outburst. “It’s been a great time. I’ve had a lot of fun. Continually growing, staying in the gym, and getting advice every day.”
Stewart’s Team USA is 4-0
Windermere High’s Sean Stewart, who joined Sensabaugh on the 2022 All-Area team as a junior, has started all four games for Team USA in this week’s FIBA 17-and-under World Cup tournament in Spain.
The 6-8, 225-pound all-state forward is averaging 7.8 points and 7.5 rebounds in 16 minutes and has 7 steals, 5 blocked shots and 4 assists through four games. He’s also been lauded for his ability to defend multiple positions.
Stewart had 10 points and 8 rebounds in Wednesday’s 103-48 round-of-16 win against outmanned Egypt. He turned a steal into a breakaway 360 spin dunk to give the U.S a 9-0 lead.
The 17-year-old delivered 13 points and 8 rebounds in a 112-64 win against Mali. He had 8 boards in an 88-55 victory vs. Slovenia and 6 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals and 2 blocks in a 120-44 win over Lebanon.
After a rest day on Thursday, the top-ranked USA Basketball national team faces Serbia (3-1) in a quarterfinal on Friday. Semifinals are Saturday, leading up to Sunday’s championship game (5 p.m. ET).
