Four Orange County deputies and a detained suspect suffered minor to moderate injuries when a suspected drunk driver slammed into at least one sheriff’s vehicles in Yorba Linda early Tuesday morning, July 19, authorities said.
The deputies were arresting a man on suspicion of committing a misdemeanor when the crash occurred about 12:30 a.m. along southbound Imperial Highway near Casa Loma Avenue, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jaimee Blashaw said.
The four deputies were standing outside their patrol vehicles while the misdemeanor suspect was seated in the back of one of them, Blashaw said.
All five were taken to local hospitals for treatment, she said.
The driver was taken into custody.
There were four sheriff’s vehicles along the roadway, but it wasn’t known how many were affected by the chain-reaction crash. It wasn’t known if the driver’s vehicle rear-ended or side-swiped a patrol vehicle, causing it to hit at least one other patrol vehicle, she said.
The California Highway Patrol was investigating the collision.
