Tesoro’s softball team competed into extra innings Wednesday for a chance to play for another championship.
Unfortunately for the sixth-seeded Titans, their breakout season ended in the semifinals of the CIF SoCal regional playoffs.
No. 7 seeded Mater Dei Catholic of Chula Vista scored twice in the 10th inning to edge host Tesoro 2-0 in Division II.
Tesoro, the CIF-SS Division 3 runner-up, would have advanced to Saturday’s final with the victory but concludes the campaign with a 21-13 record and a Sea View League title.
“Still a great season,” Tesoro coach Leena Blake said.
The Titans dueled Mater Dei Catholic (21-11) — the Division 1 champion in the San Diego Section — with their combination of pitchers Kennedy Hobson and Loula-Rae McNamara.
Hobson, a senior, started in the circle and allowed four hits in 4 2/3 scoreless innings and struck out four. McNamara, a freshman, scattered seven hits in 5 1/3 innings of relief and also struck out four.
