Ravens rookie cornerback Damarion “Pepe” Williams signed his rookie contract Tuesday, the latest in the team’s string of finalized deals for its 11 draft picks.
Williams is the Ravens’ fifth selection to sign — the third in less than a week ― and their second fourth-rounder. Center Tyler Linderbaum (first round), defensive tackle Travis Jones (third), tight end Isaiah Likely (fourth) and running back Tyler Badie (sixth) have also signed their rookie contracts.
Just over half of the team’s draft class remains unsigned. Safety Kyle Hamilton (first round), outside linebacker David Ojabo (second), offensive tackle Daniel Faalele (third), cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis (fourth), tight end Charlie Kolar (fourth) and punter Jordan Stout (fourth) are all expected to get their deals done in the coming weeks.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Williams had a combined 15 pass breakups over the past two years for the Cougars, including a team-high seven in 2020. His versatility impressed Ravens officials; according to Sports Info Solutions, Williams lined up at left cornerback (57 coverage snaps), right cornerback (64), slot cornerback (127) and safety (124) last season.
“I think with both Brandon [Stephens] and Damarion, they are both able, and they’re very smart,” Ravens director of player personnel Joe Hortiz said. “I think it just allows you to do so many different things and be creative. You can put three safeties on the field but play one of them as a nickel, and you’re in your nickel defense. You can put four safeties on the field and be in a dime defense and have confidence that two of them can cover.”
