A 40-year-old man died after he was struck by a vehicle while riding an electric bicycle near a major intersection in San Clemente on Tuesday morning, June 7. The driver was being sought, authorities said.
The man, identified by Orange County sheriff’s officials as Joshua Gene Cervantes of Capistrano Beach, was riding along northbound Avenida La Pata near Avenida Pico when he was struck by the vehicle about 1:25 a.m., spokesman Sgt. Scott Steinle said.
Deputies arrived to find Cervantes with head and neck trauma, Steinle said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators found pieces of the vehicle at the scene and later found the vehicle, unoccupied, a short distance away, Steinle said.
Further information about the vehicle or where, specifically, it was located was not disclosed. The driver of the vehicle was still being sought.
Other circumstances surrounding the collision were not immediately known.
