An Orange man was arrested on suspicion of murder after police say he struck and killed another driver in Orange in May while driving impaired on narcotics, police said Tuesday, June 28.
On May 20, 31-year-old Tyler Pitchford was driving a Kia Soul north on Tustin Street at 10:29 p.m. when he did not stop at a red light at Taft Avenue and struck a Porsche, the Orange Police Department said in a news release. The driver of the Porsche — 59-year-old Newport Beach resident Shane Lowe — died at the scene while Pitchford was taken to a local hospital with significant injuries, police said.
Pitchford’s blood sample returned positive for several narcotics, including Fentanyl, police said. Pitchford also had two prior convictions for driving impaired, authorities said.
On Tuesday, Pitchford was discharged from the hospital and arrested, officials said.
