Four firefighters were recovering Friday after a condo unit filled with fireworks erupted while crews battled a blaze in a Belmont Shore apartment building.

Crews were called around 8:20 a.m. to the 3900 block of Allin Street, where a three-story apartment building was burning on the second and third floors, said Long Beach Fire Department spokesperson Jake Heflin.

While crews worked to contain the blaze, several blasts caused by the fireworks erupted from a second-floor unit authorities believed to be used for storage.

The fire, thought to have started on the third floor, was extinguished at around 8:39 a.m., Heflin said. There were no occupants inside the unit where the fireworks were stored, and the remaining fireworks were secured.

Two firefighters suffered minor burns and hearing injuries, and two others were taken to a hospital, one for a burn injury and the other a hearing injury, Heflin said. No residents were injured, but at least two people were displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Friday.
