The driver of a big rig that was rear-ended died in a crash on the 91 Freeway in Long Beach early Sunday, June 5.
The collision occurred at about 1:10 a.m. in eastbound lanes, west of Susana Road. The driver who triggered the crash was arrested, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Authorities said Bryan Tostado, 25, of Norwalk, was speeding in a 2004 Toyota in the number one lane when his vehicle struck the center divider and rear-ended a 2022 Freightliner.
The person who died lost control of the big rig, which then left the roadway. The victim was described as a 57-year-old Santa Ana resident, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity was withheld pending the notification of relatives.
Tostado was taken to Dignity Health-St. Mary Medical Center with minor injuries. He was later arrested, though it was not immediately clear what potential charges he was booked for.
