A woman died and two others injured in a head-on crash on Antonio Parkway in Rancho Santa Margarita on Tuesday night, May 24, authorities said.
Sheriff’s deputies believe excessive speed led to the crash, which occurred about 10:10 p.m. near Tijeras Creek Road, Sgt. Scott Steinle said.
The woman was believed to be speeding southbound on Antonio with a male passenger when the vehicle hit the center median, causing the left-front wheel to lock in place, Steinle said.
The vehicle then went over the median into northbound lanes, where it slammed head-on into the second vehicle, Steinle said.
A male driver, the sole occupant of the second vehicle, was injured in addition to the passenger in the woman’s vehicle. The ages of the two injured males, or how badly they were hurt, were not immediately known.
It wasn’t immediately known if distracted or impaired driving were also factors in the crash.
The woman was identified by sheriff’s officials as Natalia Vaca Guevara, 27. Her city of residence was not available.
The crash involved an SUV and a car.
