A pricey plate of chicken wings sure has folks talking, including comedian Stephen Colbert who called out an Orange County Register story in his monologue Thursday night.
“Chicken wings for $34? Pent-up inflation driving food costs higher,” written by Bloomberg News, was published Wednesday by the Register and soon was picked up by other online media websites.
Colbert, host of the “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” evening talk show, took a swing at the fowl story in his May 19 monologue. He bemoaned rising inflation and how high food prices (flour, eggs, butter and oil — not to mention chicken) might just keep us from deep-frying our way to premature death.
The entire monologue can be found here. And it’s not the first time Colbert has been bemused by chicken.
In 2021, he noted, “Chicken Thighs Are The New Chicken Wings.”
Or in 2013, there was “Gatorade Chemicals & Chicken Wing Shortage.”
Or in 2009, he discussed that year’s pre-Super Bowl chicken wing crisis.“
