Brendon See’s steady progress in the discus this season ended with the JSerra junior winning a CIF State championship.

See won the discus title Saturday with a toss of 203 feet, 10 inches at the CIF State Track and Field Championships at Buchanan High in Clovis. That is the sixth-best discus mark in Orange County history. Scott Moser set the county standard of 213-11 in 1997 when he was throwing at Huntington Beach High.

See, who transferred this school year from Dana Hills and had to observe the 30-day sit-out period before becoming eligible to compete this spring, credited the training program designed by JSerra throws coach Michael O’Dell.

“I’ve been having some very good training recently,” See said. “We had a great practice last night. We pieced it all together and my speed and training came together at the right time.”

See said winning a state championship was a goal he set for himself, although at times it seemed like a longshot.

“I’ve always dreamed of this,” he said. “In training I’ve seen improved results. I just needed to put it together.”

He was throwing 179 feet in March and won the CIF Southern Section Division 3 championship at 181-7 on May 14. In between was a mark of 197-11 at the Arcadia Invitational in April.

Corona del Mar senior Jason Plumb took flight Saturday with a little push from the wind.

Plumb won the long jump with a leap of 24 feet, 5¾ inches. It was a wind-aided mark (the wind was at 3.9) and the second-best wind-aided long jump in Orange County history. The county wind-aided record is 24-8 ¾ by Danny Casupanan of Tustin 2002.

The county wind-legal record is 24-7 set by JSerra’s  Dante Pettis, no an NFL football player, in 2014.

The top six finishers in each event won a medal.

Dana Hills senior Jai Dawson was a close second-place finisher in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.28. The winning time was 1:50.82 by Ellis Delvecchio of Thacher. Foothill’s Jacob Robison got a medal, finishing fifth in the event at 1:51.77.

Servite senior Max Thomas finished third in the 100 with a wind-aided 10.44. The winner was Serra junior Rodrick Pleasant at 10.30.

Katella senior Ashlynn Viramontes was fourth in the 800 at 2:12.58.

San Clemente senior Caroline Hawkes finished fourth in the 400 at 55.47.

Mater Dei junior Logan Light finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a wind-aided time of 14.22 seconds.

The Los Alamitos boys 4×100 relay team finished fourth at 41.73. The winning time of Central of Fresno was 41.36 in a close race.

Although neither won a medal, senior Emma Hadley of Canyon and junior Allura Markow of Dana Hills posted their season-best times in the 1,600. Hadley completed the four laps in 4:50.78, Markow in 4:50.89. Those are the best 1,600 times this season in Orange County.

Los Alamitos sophomore Carson Fox continued his amazing comeback. Fox finished third in the 100 para race at 14.74 and third in the 200 para at 32.58. He lost his left leg to a rare form of cancer and runs with a prosthetic “blade.”

University junior Audrey Sugden won the girls 200 para race at 37.50 and was second in the girls 100 para at 17.47.

Crean Lutheran’s Jack Fairchild concluded his multisport senior year by finishing ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 45 feet, 4½ inches. Fairchild, CIF Southern Section Division 4 champion in the 110 hurdles and the triple jump, was a standout receiver for the Crean Lutheran football team and a key reserve on its Empire League championship basketball team.
