A hospitalized man who was shot in his Garden Grove bedroom on May 7 died five days later, police announced Tuesday, May 17.
The Garden Grove Police Department identified the man as Dave Abbott, 57, of Garden Grove.
The suspect, Ali Samoodi, 51, was tracked in a U-Haul truck in Menifee and eventually arrested by Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies May 7 after a 33-mile high-speed chase that ended in the area of the 10 Freeway and Cedar Avenue in the Bloomington. A motive in the killing was not immediately clear.
Samoodi was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, however, when Abbott died, Samoodi was charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with a sentencing enhancement for discharge of a firearm causing death. Samoodi pleaded not guilty Friday, May 13, and was scheduled for a pretrial hearing June 2 in Westminster.
