The Galaxy and Los Angeles Football Club has met just once in a one-game knockout tournament and that was in the MLS Cup playoffs.
LAFC defeated the Galaxy 5-3 on Oct. 24, 2019, in the Western Conference semifinals.
Later this month, the teams will meet in the U.S. Open Cup for the first time. The teams will clash May 25 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson in the Round of 16 game.
The Galaxy currently holds the all-time series advantage 6-3-5.
The game certainly adds to an already crowded schedule this month for both teams. From Saturday to May 29, the Galaxy now has five games. LAFC has five games from Saturday to May 28.
The winner will host either Sacramento Republic or San Jose in the quarterfinals next month.
The Galaxy defeated LAFC 2-1 in their first meeting April 9. The second regular-season meeting is set for July 8 at Banc of California Stadium.
