SOFTBALL TOP 25
1. Los Alamitos (24-8): The Griffins were two outs away from beating Roosevelt in the CIF Division 1 final and upsetting a top-ranked team in the state in consecutive weeks.
2. Orange Lutheran (21-9): The Lancers featured three sophomores, two juniors and a freshman in their batting order and sophomore Brianne Weiss in the circle.
3. Villa Park (24-5): The Spartans’ rebuild will begin with promising freshman pitcher Auddrey Lira and junior center fielder Claire Duckworth.
4. Pacifica (26-5): The Mariners lost to Roosevelt in the quarterfinals on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Emily Carr, the junior right fielder who delivered the walk-off single in the Division 1 final.
5. Esperanza (19-12): The Aztecs are slated to return eight starters from their batting order, including sophomore Taylor Shumaker.
6. Huntington Beach (21-8): Sophomore Zoe Prystajko earned the Surf League’s Most Valuable Pitcher award while junior outfielder Sophia Knight claimed league MVP.
7. Mission Viejo (26-5): The Diablos captured CIF-SS Division 2 with a starting lineup that included three juniors, three sophomores and a freshman.
8. Canyon (23-6): The Comanches will return most of their starters, but seniors Kylee Magee and Bella Fraser will be hard to replace.
9. Mater Dei (17-10): Coach Sean Brashear is a former assistant under Mike Smith, who guided Roosevelt to its first section title on Saturday.
10. La Habra (20-8): The Highlanders faced all three of Roosevelt’s pitchers in a 15-9 loss to close out the regular season.
