A second significant rules violation this week in boys golf occurred Thursday but Edison addressed it properly and advanced to compete another day.

The Chargers appeared to have won the CIF-SS qualifying tournament in Oxnard for the SCGA SoCal regional finals but one of their players self-reported an incorrect scorecard and was disqualified, coach Brendan Patch said.

Edison lost the title but the score of its sixth player — a 7-over par by Dawson Kollar — replaced the disqualified player and was good enough to help the Chargers finish in the top-four at River Ridge Golf Course and advance to the SCGA SoCal regional finals next week.

Edison finished with an 18-over-par score of 378 to take fourth behind Anaheim Discovery Christian (374), Dana Hills (375) and Sunny Hills (375). Cypress (379) and Servite (379) finished one shot back of Edison.

Anaheim Discovery Christian, Dana Hills, Sunny Hills and Edison advanced to the CIF/SCGA SoCal championship on May 26 at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena. The tournament serves as the qualifier for the state finals.

The rules violation by Edison arrived just two days after the Southern Section announced that Division 1 champion Palm Desert forfeited its title because of having an illegal practice on Sunday at Western Hills Country Club in Chino Hills. The forfeiture elevated Corona del Mar to the Division 1 champion and Servite to the runner-up in Division 1.

Anaheim Discovery Christian also crowned the CIF-SS individual champion Thursday as junior Youseong Choi shot a 4-under-par 68 to win the title in a one-hole playoff with Great Oak’s Nathan Sampson.
