Coronavirus: Orange County reported 2,973 new cases and four more deaths since May 24

The OC Health Care Agency reported 2,973 more cases of the coronavirus between Tuesday, May 24, and Friday, May 27, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 569,375.

There were 10,304 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Friday, May 27. The county is averaging 21.5 new cases a day per every 100,000 residents.

The county is now reporting updates to coronavirus-related case counts on Tuesdays and Fridays, following changes to reporting timelines at the state level.

There were 139 people reported in Orange County hospitals with coronavirus on Friday, including 17 who required intensive care.

The county reported four deaths on Friday, pushing the count of Orange County residents who have died from the virus to 7,034.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on May 18.

Of the 7,034 deaths reported from the virus, 1,337 were skilled nursing facility residents, 706 were in assisted living facilities, two were OC jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 546,563 people in the county have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
