The OC Health Care Agency reported 1,235 more cases of the coronavirus between Friday, April 29, and Tuesday, May 3, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 554,229.

There were 3,565 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Tuesday, May 3.

The county is now reporting updates to coronavirus-related case counts on Tuesdays and Fridays, following changes to reporting timelines at the state level.

There were 74 people reported in Orange County hospitals with coronavirus on Tuesday, including 13 who needed to be in intensive care units.

The county reported two more deaths on Tuesday, increasing the count of those who have died from the virus in Orange County to 7,009.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on April 24.

Of the 7,009 deaths reported from the virus, 1,335 were skilled nursing facility residents, 704 were in assisted living facilities, two were O.C. jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 540,814 people have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
