Chad Gurnea pitched a gem Thursday to lead Pacifica to a 3-1 win over Temescal Canyon in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 baseball playoffs.

The junior, who his a Cal State Fullerton commit, pitched a complete game, scattered five hits, allowed no earned runs and struck out two.

Justin Aguinaga and Ryland Chastain each went 1 for 3 with an RBI for Pacifica (20-8). Chad Brown had a hit and scored two runs.

Pacifica will host Sierra Canyon in the second round on Tuesday, May 10.

In other Division 2 games Thursday:

Warren 2, Beckman 1: Beckman had its season come to an end after allowing a late run to Warren in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs.

The Patriots (20-9), who were co-champs in the Pacific Coast League, had a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning, but allowed a solo home run in the fifth and a run-scoring single in the sixth.

Beckman’s Zach Ireland allowed one run on four hits for and struck out five.

Josh Miller went 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI for the Patriots, and Marcus Zeigler had a double.

In Division 4:

Tesoro 16, Don Lugo 5: Tesoro scored 16 runs on 14 hits in a rout of Don Lugo in the first round at Don Lugo High.

Jackson Freeman went 2 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs to lead the Tesoro (21-8).

Brandon Woolley hit a two-run home run and Kevin McCaffery went 3 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs.

Every hitter in the Tesoro lineup got a hit. Hunter Sablatura had three hits with a walk and scored three runs.

Pitcher Coleton Dahl allowed three runs in six innings with five strikeouts for the Titans.

Tesoro will play its second-round game Tuesday at Culver City.

Fullerton 7, St. Margaret’s 2: Kyle Kim shut down St. Margaret’s to lead Fullerton to a first-round win at Fullerton High. The junior pitched five shutout innings and had four strikeouts.

Conor Sunderland had a home run and three RBIs to lead Fullerton (21-7).

Nate Norman scored three runs and had a pair of hits.

Fullerton will host Tahquitz in the second round Tuesday.

El Modena 2, Adelanto 0: Bryant Smaaladen pitched a shutout to earn the win against Adelanto at El Modena High.

The senior lefty and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps signee pitched a complete game, allowed three hits and struck out seven.

Spencer Jacobs went 1 for 2 with a run batted in and a run scored for El Modena (20-9).

Nick Aufdenberg had two hits and Drew Rodriguez drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning.

El Modena will play at La Salle in the second round Tuesday.

In Division 6:

Estancia 7, Tarbut V’Torah 1: Andrew Mits pitched a one-hit shutout for Estancia in a win over Tarbut V’Torah at Estancia High.

Mits struck out nine and had a no-hitter through six innings.

Estancia (24-5) stole six bases in the win. Jack Moyer went 2 for 3 with two runs and one RBI. Miles Moyer scored two runs and had two hits.

James De La O had two hits with a run batted in.

Estancia will host AB Miller in the second round Tuesday.

Whittier Christian 2, Norwalk 0: Toby Kwon pitched a five-hit shutout for Whittier Christian (18-10) at Whittier Christian High.

Kwon struck out eight and had no walks. He pitched a no-hitter on April 12 against Heritage Christian.
