TORONTO — Aaron Judge smiled when he heard the story. It was simple, really. A grown man wearing a Blue Jays cap just happened to be in the right spot at the right time when Judge crushed a 427-foot, sixth-inning home run Tuesday night.
After catching the ball, he turned and saw a young boy in a Yankee cap and Judge shirt, so he gave him the ball. The boy burst out in tears and hugged the man.
“That’s special right there,” Judge said when told the story. “Yankees fans are all around the world. They’re passionate about this game, and to have a little one like that, he’s starting out the right way.”
When told it was a Blue Jays fan who gave the boy the ball, Judge was impressed.
“No way,” Judge said. “That’s what’s special about this game. It doesn’t matter what jersey you wear. Everybody appreciates this game. That’s pretty cool. I’ve got to check out that video.”
The video, shown on the YES Network, was all over social media before the Yankees wrapped up their 9-1 win over the Blue Jays.
